So what’s the best way to clean the glass? The first step in the pre-installation cleaning process is to spray a specific cleaning solution onto the glass, ultimately covering the whole glass panel with a fine mist. The solution should be in a spray bottle and is made using a mix of approx 1 teaspoon of Johnson’s baby shampoo per pint of cold water.
After spraying you will then thoroughly clean every part of the glass using a glass scraper. You will want to ensure that you do not neglect the edges of the window and ensure they are given special attention. The edges are the most common place that people miss when cleaning their glass window. A non-abrasive scrubbing pad is another suitable tool you could use for cleaning the window.
Next, you will spray the window again before using the rubber squeegee to remove all traces of water from the glass. Then using a lint free cloth or microfiber towel, you need to dry around the edges of the glass. This is important so that contaminated water doesn’t drip down behind the film, which could result in a less successful installation process.
Top Tip: When cleaning your glass window, it is important to work from the centre outwards, moving from top to bottom. Be patient here, overlapping each stroke and working slowly.

You may also feel the need to clean your window film because it is in an area which is likely to attract a lot of dust, hair, grit or other dirt around it.
For example, those who have pets may wish to clean their glass occasionally due to hair or smear marks. Alternatively, corporate customers who have frosted window film may feel the need to polish the glass to impress their clients or when doing routine office cleans.
Do I Need Tools & Equipment To Clean in The Future?
It is vital to clean your glass in the right way, using the right tools and cleaning equipment or your film could end up looking worse than before or even damaged. We recommend that you wait at least 30 days before cleaning your window film in order to allow the film to be completely settled and so that the adhesive is not affected.
Conveniently, you can clean your glass in the same way in which you did during the pre-installation process: simply using a spray solution (containing 1 teaspoon of Johnson’s baby shampoo per pint of cold water) and using a rubber squeegee or lint-free cloth to wipe the glass. A lint-free cloth is essential so that no fibres are left behind
It is essential not to use anything abrasive for cleaning or drying as they can be coarse enough to lightly scratch and damage your window film. The film has a scratch resistant coating but this protects against every day wear and tear. It won’t protect against deeper scratches. Use soft, high-quality paper towels or microfibre cloths to avoid this.
